I have heard Mr. Amram's Latin Jazz Celebration LP which I enjoyed very much. It must have been interesting freelancing in NYC back then (and still). One of my mantras as a trumpet teacher was "Be Versatile". Any thoughts about the scene past and present, being versatile etc.>
Thanks.
I believe the trumpet section was Markie Markowitz, Joe Wilder and me.

"Mean Dean" is about Eugene Ormandy, "The Man Who's Eyes Could Kill." Legend has it that Ormandy spent a whole season staring at one of the second violinist of the orchestra. That fiddle player committed suicide.

Dave made up the horn section's parts in the studio as we recorded. He is amazing.

The NY scene in the early 70s was unreal, recording sessions were going on all day and all night. I did a Stanley Clarke album that started after midnight. It was done at Jimi Hendrix studio, "Electric Lady," in the Village. Imagine....a vending machine that dispensed beer. Wow
We were busy!
