| Re: A serious trumpet in my humble opinion, I would recommend the Yamaha 8335 "Xeno" horn. That is what I use and I play everything from Jazz to Brass quintet to Big band to full out Symphonic and orchestral rep. It's right in your price range and the horn is accessible to play from the beginner to the working professional.
(am I wrong?) it is a great horn.
