Re: Range needed to be a pro?

Pro Essentials. I work pretty extensively as a free lance artist in my area. I am not a "lead" player. That being said, i have never found myself in a situation where I could not cover a particular part. I have a C to C range. Yes, I can player higher, but I would never feel comfortable playing let's say lead on a three hour big band gig. However, I am comfortable doing show work. You should have good technique, and an even timbre' from C to C You should have a beautiful sound and good reading ability with a knowledge of different styles is essential. Play everything you can. Play orchestral excerpts, big band gigs, combo gigs, learn to take a solo and not be "sad". Get as much experience as possible and be able to read!!!!
