| Re: Playing on new mouthpieces One misconception that a lot of people seem to have is the shallow=range. While it can be true for some, it is not a 100% true statement. A shallower mouthpiece brightens the sound, and tends to extend endurance in the upper register but it doesn't mean that you will get more range. If that were the case, you wouldn't see any where close to the amount of 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 C's floating around.
Now, the question I have is why do you want a shallow mouthpiece? Is it to increase range, or are you playing lead for a jazz group? If your only reason for a shallower cup is to get range, you should probably practice more and worry about a mouthpiece less.
