This is a subjective question I know - but how would you compare say, the Olds and a Getzen 300?
Also thinking that I might want a cornet for the sound. Would it make for nice duet with a trumpet?
Thanks!
Unrelated: I started in the 4'th grade. They don't start here until 6'th grade... What a shame it seems to me. | Bill, glad you are getting into it with your son. I have a 73 Olds Ambassador cornet and would recommend one highly. Big , dark sound in comparison with my Roth, which is "sweeter" and the Holton, which is somewhere in between. I has a bigger "wrap" than the others and built like a tank, with good valves. Would be a nice contrast between a trumpet in duets. You both would sound somewhat different anyway.
Back when I started in the mid 50's, there wasn't any program in the elementary except violin. 7th grade was the start of organized bands.
