Re: Once in a lifetime

In 1963 I played the Haydn Concerto with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Ormandy was supposed to conduct, but he had a near fatal car accident earlier that season and William Smith conducted my debut with the Philly.
The performance was like a dream.....there was a kid from South Philly playing with his heroes. In one of the tutti sections in the last movement, I was listening to the wonderful sounds of the orchestra, when I heard someone quietly singing the trumpet part...............Oops I forgot why I was there. Those few notes were all I missed that night.
That was once in a lifetime experience.
