| Re: The Soloffs [quote=JuJu Horn;371502]it;s funny I have met players who are anti Lew Soloff referring to him as "Lew solo" but he is a great "trumpet" player and underrated by some perhaps due to his stint with BS&T
Those who are anti LEW are basically your run of the mill nay sayers who most likely envy the man for his early success.
Had Randy Brecker not split the band (BS&T),I wonder what 'they' talk would have said about Lew who was honing his skills in the Catskills.
I shudder to read what 'they' may have to say about Chuck Mangione who by the way was a "JAZZ MESSENGER" and who led an outstanding Be-Bop Quartet during the early 70's before he began to follow the money.
Further,I know cats who were dyed-in-the-wool Buck Clayton fans and who later criticitized him for his (stellar) contribution with ODETTA (and The Blues).
The same ill conceived rational and out of hand rebuke was applied to Phil Woods who added that melodic sound to Billy Joel's late 1970's recordings.
