7C and Buescher Duo Cup 99D

Have picked up the horn again after a long time. Only played for fun... 4'th thru college... But used a Bach 7C all that time. Picked up a used Buescher cornet for a few $ and it had a Duo Cup 99D. I seem to get better high range with it, than with the 7C. (Also have a 7C for cornet). Putting the 99D into the trumpet (yes it is loose and VERY sharp!) I get more high range, like with the cornet.

What is the difference 'tween these? I am looking for a step up for my trumpet, and don't know which way to go? There is a store an hour's drive from here that has a large variety that I can try on for size...

This is one of those $64 questions I know - so mostly I am wondering what the 99D is characteristically, to help direct my search.

On a previous note - my son (age 12) and I are fixing up a pair of Olds Ambassadors, and he likes the sound and playability (is that a word?) better than his rental Yamaha. Took one to school today. Will see what he says later. "His" is currently raw brass - the lacquer was in bad shape, and he likes it. Not sure what to do with the finish...

Thanks,
Bill
