Re: The Wedge

Hi folks,

Just got back from the ITG a few hours ago. Hopefully some players who tried a Wedge there will post soon.

Regarding the stuffy issue, some people do find the 27 throat a bit restricting. Interestingly, a number of players who tried the Wedge on my own Wedge large backbore were quite comfortable on it with a 27 throat, even some orchestral players used to a 24 throat on a Bach 1-1/2C were OK with it. However, I will be supplying them with a 25 throat version of the top and backbore, which should be out soon. The 25 throat works very well, so that is what I would suggest trying if stuffiness is an issue.

Mike Herriott, who plays a 22 throat piece most of the time played a 27 throat Wedge for his closing night jam session and found it comfortable, but he will end up on something bigger.

One thing of note, I fitted about 100 players at the ITG. Almost everyone, including some very prominent lead players liked the larger sizes. I had noted this before, but this week it was quite obvious that the larger sizes do work best. The same might not be true with a 25 throat.

Cheers,

Dave
