Re: Contest Entries Good idea!
Here is mine!
My dream trumpet would be a horn that is decidedly open in feel with excellent targets on each note. Mine would be a horn that could easily push through a big band with energy but also be able to darken up and play small group jazz and orchestral excerpts. This would also have to be an efficient horn but have a big bell. Focused sound but race-car performance to give me the feedback I need via resonance while at the same time projecting that same energy out into a room.
I would start with the #50 lead-pipe and a reverse tuning slide configuration for that open feel. A single radius tuning slide would provide additional openness while the modular weighted trim kit would tighten up the slotting and focus the sound a bit more with the heavier setup. Standard slides with no mechanical levers to deaden up the horn, I would have only minimal bracing to allow for optimal resonance. I would have brass interior on all the slides for a more natural feel while maintaining my finish of choice on the exterior. The bell would be a rose-brass bell with large tapers and a 5" plus diameter. The entire horn would be 24K gold plated with a Saddle on 1st valve and circular rings on the 3rd valve slide and lead-pipe. The bore of the horn would be on the larger side, close to 0.468 if possible. Standard spit valves. |
