Thumbs up Pocket Trumpets

Well, just yesterday I decided to get myself a new horn, but a different kind. So I went for the pocket trumpet, seeing as how it can be something new for me. Okay, so I went to the nearest Sam Ash next to me and got a Jean Baptiste Gold pocket trumpet.

I was actually rather surprised by how small it is. It's approximately 1/3 of my actual Horn. It came with a nice case just like all JB instruments do, and it can be carried anywhere. You could literally put it in your school book bag and use it during your band period.

Okay, so when I opened it, it was looking very good! It came with a Standard 7C mouthpiece, White Gloves, and of course the Horn itself. Now so I tried testing it out, and I must say I am very pleased.

The quality of sound is actually fatter then the one of my bigger horn. I can still go from all my registers on it starting from low F# to the G over high C. I actually feel like I can hear the note in my head more clearer now. Of course the mouthpiece in there was kind of different from my regular 7C I have now, so I didn't like it that much...But that's minor. Valve reactions were fine, no problems there. If you actually know what to do, you could put the trumpet in tune very easily there are 2 slides.

Oh, one little thing I didn't like was the way it had to be held. After about 30 minutes of playing I noticed a white mark of my hand, and it wasn't receiving enough circulating blood. The Pocket Trumpet doesn't have much flexibility space, so that's the only problem I see with it. Overall, great horn to have.

So you guys have any pocket trumpets? Any experiences? Thoughts?
