In my ceaseless efforts to keep this thread on the first "page" I've gone and bought another trumpet. The pawn shop I frequent (I've gotten a Holton ST200 and a King Liberty in silver from the 1930's with the Art Deco bracing - both really cheap) had an Olds Recording with no dents, 95% of its lacquer, all the moving parts moving nicely, Fullerton on the bell and a 1964 serial number for $300 (in a nice case). They hadn't priced it when I first saw it. I asked them what they would want and they said they'd have to do some research. They called me two days later and said they were confused - that there were similar offerings on ebay with prices ranging from $600 to $2500 (I think they must have been struggling with the differences between Super Recordings, Recordings, Mendez) so they asked the local music store and their guy said $400 would be a good place to start. I suggested $300 and they said "okay". They must not have had much into it. Today is payday so I'll go and pick it up tonight after work - after I give it a bath I'll try to post some pictures here and at "Vintage Eye Candy". I'd like to say I'm good at this but the truth is I seem to be just lucky.
