Hi I am new here. I'm a middle school student and Have been playing trumpet for over a year and in my school's jazz band, 1st trumpet. I have a King Liberty Model that was my great-grandfather's when he was a kid. It's in great condition and all the slides move with just a few tiny dents that are hard to notice. What kind of trumpet you have?:play:

Hello All-

Great site with good information.

I reviewed the thread about how old were you when you started and on what horn? I was amused by the number of posts from folks who did not play for years and started again.

I am in my early 40s. I started playing in the 4th grade and played in ensembles through college. Since then, I have not played much at all.

I am returning to the art. I have an old Bach I bought in about 1980. Before that I played a Conn. I am using a 7c mouthpiece and am wondering if I should switch to something else. That is perhaps another matter for a new post......

Yesterday, I ordered a new Yamaha flugel. I always wanted one. I ordered the Shew model. It has a tighter bore than the 731, so I am a bit concerned I may not like the horn. But there appear to be plently of accolades for this horn and few critical posts.

I am enjoying the site and your posts.

Hello, I'm GARY. I started playing Conn Constellations in the early 60's. I play in a jazz band at work for company functions and in church 3-4 times a year. Ole faithful is a (I think a 28B) Constellation, lacquered with a 5"bell. I picked up a nickel plated Constellation with a 5 1/8" bell a few years ago as my backup horn. I'd like to know more about what I really have. Give me a shout pls to discuss if interested. Thanks.

Hello Fellow Trumpeters!

I came across your forums when looking for more information on my mom's 1960 Holton Super Collegiate Trumpet. This was my first trumpet to see if I really liked playing. Well, I was hooked and ended up with a Yamaha which I still have. I played for 7 years including jazz, concert, and marching bands. I had a blast!! I am now (20 years later) just pulling them out to give it another shot in my church band.

I was curious if anyone knows of an appraiser to contact concerning the 1960 Holton. I have the original warranty card with a serial #327456 which I confirmed is a 1960 throgh another website you guys suggested in one of the threads. Any information would be appreciated.

Have a great evening!

Hello! My name's Drew and I'll be your resident newcomer for this thread. Please keep all hands, valves, bells, and slides inside of the thread at all times. Thanks, and enjoy the ride!

I'm 19 years and a sophomore at Michigan Technological University studying Computer Systems Science.

I've been playing trumpet for... oh gosh, lemme think, it's been since 6th grade, so I suppose it's been going on 9 years now. Time flies when you're having a "blast," I suppose!

My equipment includes a student-model Jupiter that I got in 6th grade and a Getzen 700 Eterna II that I got 4 years ago. As far as mouthpieces go, my favorite mouthpiece to use is a Schilke 20; I played baritone for a few years and got used to playing on a "big" mouthpiece so it just feels comfortable to me.
I also must admit on playing on a plastic Kelly 1C for my escapades in the infamous Michigan Tech Huskies Pep Band. A little bit more range and it doesn't stick to my lips in the frigid winters; I'm okay with a small amount of tone loss. :-P

But enough of me babbling. Hope you enjoyed the thread and come back again soon!

Drew :play:

Hello. My name is Scott. I'm new to the forum but not new to the trumpet. I started playing in Jr. High School at Barnett Jr. High in Arlington TX in 1996. I continued to play throughout HS (James Bowie HS in Arlington TX). After HS I attended the University of Texas at Arlington and played in the UTA Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Bill Snodgrass and later Tim Ishii. I left UTA in Spring 2005 and moved to Massachusetts to be with who is now my wife. I don't play as much as I used to, but I still pick it up for fun every once in a while.

I am a comeback player and I have been at this for the last two months.
I played through Jr. High and High school and set my horn aside to answer Uncle Sam’s call in 1970.
I did not pick up my horn again until the late 1990 to play in church with some other very good trumpeters.
They offered encouragement to keep at it. With work and other commitments I set my horn down again.
This year my wife encourage me to check out a local chapter of a national group named “New Horizons”
I did and ended up joining the band. The one constant that I have re-discovered is I have to practice and then practice some more. I am sitting next to a fellow in his seventies who is playing a trumpet from the 1930’s.
It has a very mellow tone. I am playing an old student Conn Director cornet. If I have read and researched the serial number correctly this particular horn was built in 1955. I also use a student trumpet (Besson 220).
This cornet has a somewhat darker / mellow tone than my trumpet.

I will be reading the post about mouth pieces and looking for a source for a next step up horn in the not too distant future.:D

Still play my beautiful Olds Recording (1962 model) my parents bought me when I was in 10th grade; it retains that brilliant, piercing note, a trumpet noticeable anywhere. Great horn!

My name is Karla. Recently decided to start playing trumpet for my church. I played in junior high and high school, but didn't continue after I graduated. I have a Bach Stradivarius. I found this Web site by googles how to clean the tarnish of your silver trumpet. I think I'm going to try the aluminum foil and salt bath. My trumpet is not tarnished much, but thought I'd try and get the few spots on it off.
