Systematic Approach To Daily Practice(Claude Gordon) Daily Trumpet Routines(Claude Gordon) Technical Studies(Herbert L. Clarke) Arban's 240 Double And Triple Tonguing Exercises(Victor V.Salvo) of course I would like to sneak in a dozen more but the post asks for 5!

| Re: 5 best books for trumpet I would substitue Schlossburg for Colin, and Rochut for Borgdoni (same idea, but in bass clef--makes us think, and takes away the fear of ledger lines). Of course it isn't the books, but how we use them that counts!

| Re: 5 best books for trumpet I've got a Clarke and a Schlossburg, but the Clarke is book No. 2. I'd like to have book no. 1 and go with that. For a raw beginner like me, I like the Visual Band Method, from 1964. Even has photos of fingers holding down valves, and starts from low C rather than mid-scale G like Rubank does. I hope to have Arban's, all of Claude Gordon, that first Clarke, someday. And be able to write down stuff so I can write down stuff I just know in my head.

  | Re: 5 best books for trumpet If we are speaking about just reading a text, then definitely Claude Gordon's Brass Playing is No Harder than Deep Breathing. For practice, #1 is Clarke's Technical Studies. It has everything. #2 is Systematic Approach to Daily Practice by Claude Gordon. The reason this is second is because I learned on Clarke and only more recently found SA. Applying Gordon's principles to whatever you practice is enough. It's not what you practice, but how you practice is exactly right.
