It gets you "centered"! When you start experiencing some problems during your practice session... go back to it!8. Start the day by playing on the leadpipe/mouthpiece combination. Use plenty of air and try to get the most steady and resonant sound you can. On most Bb trumpets the concert Eb is the natural resonant pitch of the leadpipe.

After many years of practicing, after thousands of dollars for lessons and after many performances in solo (even when I forgot to zip up my pants), I have learned one very important lesson. You've got to WANT that note that you are going to play. It has to be part of you emotionally, psychologically and physically. You have to feel what you are playing.
