Hey I posted this in the greetings page but I think I'll get more traffic here.
I'm a jazz pianist and ex-hornist looking to start cornet. I have a 1930's blessing artist and I want to focus on developing a beautiful dark/full tone while I'm woodshedding this summer. I'm only interested in small jazz combo playing, I feel as a ex-hornist I probably won't be able to develop "screamin chops".
My current cornet mpc is badly dinged and I def need a new one. I'm looking at the Dennis Wick #3 or #4. Any suggestions for getting that small combo sound? I have fairly large lips btw.
Any suggestions about instructional books would be greatly appreciated too. I'm quite familiar with improvisation, I know my scales, voicings, some tunes etc but I need help getting to a point on cornet where I can express myself.
