    Alberta International Band Festival

    Feb 18 - 24, 2004. Concert Band categories from Gr 2 up to 6 including Junior H.S. to Community Concert. Includes separate category for Jazz Band. Includes "set pieces" and "sight reading".

    Ah yes, I remember the year I was in the winning senior band, the Westwinds Gold. Damn that was great playing, and I was only 48 at that time!

    Of course, they'll beat you this year too :wink:

    Alberta Provincial Music Festival
    1993 - Gold Band received the following awards after performing in a variety of classes attracting over 120 bands from the Western Provinces and the Northwest U.S.A.
    -Silver Trumpet Award for Outstanding Band in all categories
    - Superior Band Award - Senior Class Grade V
    - Chieftain Development Award
    - Provincial Music Award - Band Grades 4,5 & 6
    - Most Outstanding Band in Provincial Category
    - Sight Reading Award Grades IV & V
    - Cardston Festival Award - Most Outstanding Band at Provincials
    Kiwanis Music Festival
    Each year the Gold and Silver bands have performed for adjudication receiving consistent evaluations in the Excellent and Superior categories. Both bands have performed as selected guest performers at the final "Festival of Stars " performance.


    The Bands have also been recipients of the Lethbridge Herald Band award for best overall band in the Festival over their many years of adjudications.

    Sorry...that last post might have come across a little egotistical. To be perfectly fair I've joined the band since they won all those awards so Bill, you might be exactly right! :) But we'll know more towards the end of February.

    Our band director received a phone call late Monday to inform him that the Gold Band received two SUPERIOR ratings in the Class V Band category.

    A band that receives two Superior adjudications receives the "Gold Plaque" award at the Tuesday closing event.

    We'll doubtless have more information sometime later today or tomorrow.

    Photos of the bus ride etc. are now up at http://www.lcbs.ca under the "Calgary Int'l Band Festival" heading.
