Any NASCAR Fans???

I thought I'd share with everyone that I will be performing the Star Spangled Banner at this Sunday's Allstate (Brickyard) 400. It aires on Sunday at 2PM EST on ESPN. This is my third solo appearance at the Indianapolis Motorspeedway, with the first two having been 'Taps' at the starts of the 2006 and 2007 Indianapolis 500. I feel really lucky to have been asked to do this!

Wish me luck! (please....)

Do you play Taps with straight eight notes or the Marine Corp way?

Re: Any NASCAR Fans???

As far as I am aware, the DoD has only one authorized version of "Taps." The website for the President's Own Marine Band lists this as the official notation: http://www.marineband.usmc.mil/learn...ments/taps.pdf

So, to answer your question, I play straight eighth notes. I don't play in strict time. For me, "Taps" is slightly different every time I play...once I get started, it sort of plays itself, and I try to not get in the way.

On a differnt note, I am not in the Marine Corps any longer. I am now a full time student at Indiana University and have transferred to the National Guard.

I am always glad to hear straight eighth notes.
I think I can hear you on one of the "Free to Air" TV stations in St. Louis.
