Re: Brighter tone

rowuk is exactly right, your premise is not very intelligent. I'm guessing you play first chair in your local high school or college. This is great. However, some of the people on this site have played for many years. I've played for over 40 and when I was 18 did I have an appriciation for Miles Davis? Hell no!!! I wanted to sound like Maynard!!!
Now that I'm older and wiser, I realize that BOTH are good and BOTH identifies the person. I don't think I can find anyone better than Miles. But then again I don't think I can find anybody better than Maynard. Guess what, there's a ton of players I can say this about (including myself sometimes). You have to go to the sound and study it. it will not come to you. You just don't get it right now, but that's ok. In time you will.
