Cool Carnival of Venice - It is time.

Last night I bought Carnival of Venice to be performed on February 22nd. I am a senior in high school, and feel I am finally ready. I was wondering if any of you had any recordings that you would recommend to give me a running start. Thanks!

-David

I think you should start with asking the "trumpet masters" on this site.
I think Tom would have pretty good advice on this. I am pretty sure he was a soloist with the Marine Band. Any of them are going to have good ideas.
The Marine Band is known for its cornet soloists and your Carnival of Venice is surely a good example of Marine Band soloing.

U-tube Carnival of Venice. There are numerous recordings from amateur to Allen Vizzutti & Wynton.

Here are a couple humbling ones (9 -14 years old):

YouTube - Rubén Simeó, trompeta. Carnaval. Orq. Alicante

YouTube - Rubén Simeó, trompeta. Carnaval final. RTVE

What version do you have? There is the Arban version, it is probably the one you hear the most on recordings. There is also the Clarke version, which is a bit easier. I am sure there are more.

Watching Rubin reminds me to kill myself.............later.
His fingers move effortlessly. Notice that he has memorized the music.

Youtube that man. You'll get at least 1234856423156485415 videos of pros doin it, also some amatuers. Most of the amateurs copy the pros, but there is also some cool, original interpretation. Check it out.

Re: Carnival of Venice - It is time.

Wow, thanks for all of the replies. (It is the Arban version, btw)

I have looked at some of the videos and must say...Maybe I'm not ready...:)

I will definitely try..but wow. Especially the tonguing. That will be the hardest part. I will keep you all updated and post some sound clips asap! Thanks again, TM!
