Cat Anderson method breathing technique
I have been working on lots of Caruso, and Arban (with great results ) as part of my daily routine recently. However, i think i need to get back to playing the Cat Anderson pp long G (15mins) exercise again in addition. When i practiced it a few months ago, it was bloomin superb for the chops, air focus and sound. However something i really struggled with on this exercise is keeping relaxed, and getting the breathing right! The breath control and relaxation in this exercise IMHO is about the most difficult i have ever done.
When playing the note, should you play until your lungs are empty, then take another breath?
Should you play shorter notes regularly topping up?
Should the breathing be timed at a particular tempo with timings for inhalation and exhalation?
If you are a Cat student, what advice did he give on the matter of breathing these notes?
EC i would like to hear your ideas on this as well!
