Re: choosing the right trumpet

Nobody can tell you what's right for you...but some will try!
I like the Bach 43 for just that reason, nice sound all around.
but many like the Yamaha Xeno, or Kanstul, or NYTC, or whatever!
Try them all if you can and bring someone to listen to you. Pick what
you think sounds and feels best.
And that's about it...have fun!

Re: choosing the right trumpet

Part of it's not about what equipment you use. Playing with ease in the higher register is not all about your equipment. Don't expect massive range jumps when you buy a new horn or a mouthpiece.

Re: choosing the right trumpet

Go to as many stores as you can and play as many horns as you can.
Your horn will find you!! But you have to look for it. That's the fun.

Cheers

Re: choosing the right trumpet

I agree with the previous replies, that you need to try these horns to see what's right for you. But at the same time, it's nice to have some information to help you navigate through the many horns that are out there. One online resource that has helped me is Guide to new trumpets.

Re: choosing the right trumpet

I totally agree with everyone else... how original of me! :P The best thing you can do is go to a shop and play a few horns and see what you like best. I remember getting a new horn for my 16th birthday... I was dead set on getting a Bach Strad, of course, but my parents told me to play a lot of horns and see which sounded and felt best for me. I ended up getting a Schilke B5 instead. The best thing you can do is PLAY THE HORNS.
