For those of you who didn't see that, you missed an excellent arrangement of "Here's that Rainy Day" with Doc on a flugelhorn. Beautiful.

Dang, I missed this topic, and Doc....

Toots was nice enough to share with me a recording of Doc playing on Hee Haw on Oct. 1981. AWESOME recording. I wonder if anyone has the episode on tape/DVD?

Van

*chuckle* What Van didn't say was that it was a recording of Doc mouthpiece buzzing a medley of CW tunes on Hee Haw! It is.... an amazing display of chops and technique.

That was a likely a gold-plated Kanstul Chicago 1025 Flugel. Doc bought it from Zig.

Doc was visiting us in spring, 2003 while doing some research for his (then) upcoming trumpet. While playing and chatting in my office he casually picked up the Chicago flugel and blew a few notes. Immediately, he exclaimed "I really like this horn!", to which Byron Autrey replied, "Well you ought to, it's just like your old Besson." Some years prior, Doc's Besson flugel had been stolen and he had never replaced it. Doc says "Get ol' Ziggy on the phone" and as soon as I did, Doc shouts across the room "Can I get it gold-plated today?"
