Double Tonguing/Endurance Excercise

Hi guys,

For the past year or so I've been taking about 1 lesson a month with Manny Laureano. One of the things I really like about studying with him is the simple exercises he gives. Here's a real simple one:

Go to page 176 in the Arbans book (#82-86 in the double tonguing section). Play the page down, with only two beats between each exercise. Tempo is up to you, but I like it in the high 120s. By the end, you'll be almost dead. Wait 2 or 3 minutes, then repeat. Both Manny and I found it to be much easier the second time. Maybe the muscles get used to the abuse

This exercise in itself isn't anything groundbreaking, but it's one way to add a little challenge to exercises we all play ad nauseum.

-Jimi

Nope, I'm originally from the East Coast. And, to be completely honest, I probably wasn't good enough in high school to get into MYS. I haven't seem them this year, but I saw them do Scheherazade a few years ago and it was fantastic!
