“This art is acquired only by laborious studies, for the rebellious nature of the instrument demands a great aptitude coupled with a persevering willingness to become a master of it.” – F.G.A. Dauverné (1857)
I don't have a favorite , there are just to many great players out there. I enjoy many - Doc,Al,Arturo,Maurice,Wynton,Herb,Dizzy, and so many others.
I am just in awe of so many great players that I will not dis-respect them by choosing one. Just a humble mediocre wanna-be, Dave

I'm with Dave... I'm in awe of Louis, Wynton, Maurice, Sergei, Manny, Alex, Trent, Doc, Chuck, Jens, Ronald Romm, Joe Burgstaller, ...... (and on, and on, and on).... I could listen to any one of them at any time and go "Dang... wish I could do that". To pick one is to dis the rest.
Allen Vizzutti ... no question about his talent! He's a great player, composer/arranger, and he's one of the warmest human beings that I have had the privilege of knowing.
Clark Terry, who has been a great inspiration in my life in general. To know him, is to Love him! What more can I say.
Courage doesn't always roar, sometimes it's that little voice at the end of the day that says. "I'll try again tomorrow."
I can't name just one!
That's like asking me what my favorite food is; for God sake look at me man! I like it all....
So I answer this by saying I like them all!

Clark Terry... without a doubt for millions of reasons (I'll list 5):
1. His amazing muscianship
2. His impeccable technique and perfect embouchure
3. His signature sound and style
4. His showmanship
5. His heart (the kindest, warmest man I've ever met)
If you get a chance to see him play DO IT!!!! He's 85 and still kicking total tail! I model almost everything I do as a musician/entertainer from his teachings.

Chet Baker, Clark Terry and Lee Morgan are the biggest influences in my playing.
