What is to reach the heart must come from above. If it does not, it will be nothing but notes, body without spirit.

Music is God's best gift to man. The only art of heaven given to earth, the only art of earth we take to heaven.

no one's mentioned CHASE?!
shame, and we call ourselves a trumpet forum...
“This art is acquired only by laborious studies, for the rebellious nature of the instrument demands a great aptitude coupled with a persevering willingness to become a master of it.” – F.G.A. Dauverné (1857)
I grew up "garage band" doing "beach" music (hey, I lived in VA Beach, that's what they played back then)...but Chase blew me away on their first album (which I still possess), as well as BS&T, Chicago, and on and on, everybody named so far. Played alot of covers of all of them...and then things went "metallic", and the brass boys were excused from a lot of gigs.
("ah"...as he leans back and takes a swig of his beer..."those were the days")
Does anybody remember "10 Wheel Drive"? - Ike & Tina Turner?
Its got to be the 'Godfather of Soul' (and FUNK)...James Brown. His Horns were very tight, like the rest of the band.
Some other great Bay Area Horn Bands -
Cold Blood (Mic Gillette, Bill Atwood, Max Haskett)
Malo (Tom Harrell, Luis Gasca, Forrest Buchtel)
Azteca (Tom Harrel, Mel Martin (sax) Escovedo Bros.
Hey Bill Ortiz, did you play with any of these groups?
Oh, also don't forget about Mic Sterling & the Stud Bros.
Yamaha 731 Flugel
Warburton 6 series
Average White Band ,Commodores, EW&F, Chicago, Stevie Wonder,
George Clinton .
Hey Rick-I had the pleasure of playing with Malo durring the early/mid 80's. Later on I had the honor of playing with both Luis Gasca and Forest Buchtel for a while on bay area salsa gigs-I certainly had lots of fun playing with them. As for the Escovedo bros., I had a couple of stints in Pete Escovedo's band, puting in about 8 years total. I played with Mic on the most recent Voices Of Latin Rock earlier this year-had a great time! bye for now :)
