Finger Button

I recently purchased a 1958 Olds Ambassador trumpet with one finger button missing. The repair shop put an old vintage finger button on. It matches the other two in design but the mother of pearl button is darker than the other two. Will it be possible to lighten up the color of this finger button to more closely match the original two. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Re: Finger Button

Why not put that dark button on the 2nd valve, and call it a piano ?

No. And what's the difference anyway?

Red face Re: Finger Button

Try this, take them off, rub them (all three) as much(and as hard) as you dare on a rag with car polishing compound, or another fine grit substance, maybe toothpaste. I've found that the older buttons can get discolored and or lacquered in the old days.Rub rub rub, then buff out. Try not to use too much or it will get clogged in the knurling of the buttons.Good luck! If all else fails you can get a set of 3 new ones fairly cheap on ebay fronm several suppliers!

If it plays well, what do you care what it looks like?
