Flight Cases and new UK rules

Gday Manny-

How did you go taking your horns on the plane on your recent UK trip? Did you have to check them? If so, can you recommend any 'flight OK' cases? I've got a tour there in November and am thinking perhaps the old reunion gig bag is not going to cut it this time...

The main problem is not strength of the case but locking.

In the US there is a standard security lock that airport security personnel have access to. You can get equipment cases that have that lock so you can lock it and they can unlock it with their key.
It makes it a bit more secure.

In the UK this is not possible so you can't lock anything.

Someone, somewhere, recommended that if you have a case on which you can put a padlock (case, suitcase, whatever) that you just put one of those wire bundle ties (those plastic, locking things) on before you check the bag. That way you can at least tell if it's been opened by security. The problem is, if it hasn't been opened by anyone... and you aren't allowed to carry a "sharp object" with which to cut the plastic tie at destination, how the heck do you get the case open?

Those "universal padlocks" that airport security can open are available not only in the US but Canada as well. We used them on this summer's trip to Germany with no problems.
