What in the world is Flutter Tongue and why?
well, you know how you roll r's in spanish? i guess you do that into your trumpet. last year in concert season it was on EVERY one of the songs we played.
so i need to learn how to do it.
If this was a spanish forum id be asking how to roll my r's
This one's not easy to describe. Those whose primary language is Spanish find it very easy as it is the same motion as rolling the RR in Spanish.
I do it by placing the tip of the tongue on the roof of the mouth just behind the front teeth and then blow out with a HAAaah sound. That is accompanied by a fluttering of the tongue and I can't describe it any better. The tongue flutters up and down with the air passing by it. That's the best I can do.

Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again.
Like you have said, it is like rolling the RRs in Spanish. If that doesn't help, then think back to the glory days. When you imitated the sound that a car or motorcycle made when going down the street, what did you do? When you don't think about it too much, it helps. Keep trying to sound like an engine and then do it with the trumpet.
