G transposition

Hey,

My teacher, Gary, told me to ask if for the MYS auditions in the Rep requirements if the G transposition is down a 3rd or up a 6th? He said he has never used the transposition ever before so he didn't know what you wanted.

Thanks,
ST

ST,

I think you might be looking in the wrong category. The G transposition is for horn in this case.

Trumpets use the G transposition often when a person playing a C trumpet is transposing an A part. It's down a minor third from the written note. From the Bb trumpet, a part in G is almost always up a 6th.

In any case, I think there's a mistake somewhere. In 17 years, I've never asked someone to transpose a G part nor do we even have anything in the MYS library for G trumpet.

Manny,

The trumpet section rep requirements says,

"Have the basic knowledge of the following transpositions: Eb, G, D & E"

So you are saying I dont have to learn "G" it for my audition?

Thanks

Good G-d!

Those are requirements for horn. Somebody messed up. Check the horn requirements and see if they're the same as that or different. I'm willing to bet they got switched by accident.

Thanks.

Okay, it's an error. I'll make sure the office knows. Thanks.

You need to know:

A, C, F, and Eb.
