Is a good condition Getzen super deluxe tone balanced for $450 a good deal?

It would want to be in near perfect condition for that money.
I would gladly part with one of mine that has never had the bell crumpled and re straightened, ( this makes it a very rare horn ), for that price. I will even throw in the OEM Getzen mouthpiece and a useable but non original hard case. Shipping and insurance via Fedx at actual cost.

I might be able to get a lower price once I see it...probably more like $300 cash perhaps...
That last figure probably is more in the ballpark. As Lou says, watch for any bell damage or evidence of repair. They had very thin copper very prone to damage in the bell. You might chect ebay completed auctions to see if any have gone by there lately. Let us know how it turns out after you see it, if you like.

Origanaly they sold for $150 new inthe 1950's and where an excellent sounding horn hence the reason they sold so many of them and people have played the snot out of them! So usualy when you find one even if itis good shape the valves normaly have close to no compression. Getzen does nto produce or stock part's for them and I amnot sure if ALlied Supply does??? They sound really nice and are easy to play. Their is nothing rare about them though at all.

I do believe that these were very close copies of Olds Recordings. They are set up in a very similar fashion, and look fairly close to each other. If it plays well, I'd go for it.

OldLou I know what you meant I was not contridicting you at all!!LOL I was mostly thinking about this Ebay seller that has had on on Ebay for a while and they always have this "add copy" that make it sound like you are biddingon the "Hope Diamond" of Trumpet's. I think they start the first bid out at $350 and have a buynow button of $450 etc..... Sure it looks absolutely mint but with out playing it first their is no way I pay that type of money for that particular model. that was what my "not rare" statement was actualy about or what I was thinking about.
When ever I see them you are right they normaly have a bent leadpipe, no compression left and a bell that is has some wrinkles that where removed but still show! SO yes your's would be rare in that reguard!LOL
i bought my son a copra temp copper bell on e-bay 200.00,
this horn is really amazing , it is like brand new , two slides was stuck all but one valve cap was stuck , so very carefully i got the caps loose , it is like the orginal oil froze them, valves look very new . with a hair dryer i gently heated two and three slides got them out pulled the rest out, again very clean inside , the horn took a bath at The horn Doctor , Anchorage Ak. (John, apprenticed at the Getzen factory) this horn is so shiny and the copper bell really makes us proud. it has bottom sprung valves , the question is what does this mean , age ? and when did Getzen change , oh the bell is 4 7/16 , how do i measure the bore ? The bell and horn was never damaged.
i wish i knew how to post a photo from yahoo flicker , can any one help ?
