Great Trumpet Player

Has there ever been a great trumpet player that had big lips?

Al Vizzuti, for one. They're not huge, by any means, but they're bigger than mine.

Jerome Ashby is the Asssociate Principal horn player with the NY Philharmonic and has very full lips. He's a fabulous player with a beautiful sound. If you want to hear him on CD, one place you can is on the DVD of Bernstein conducting Beethoven's 9th at the Berlin Wall. He was asked to play 4th horn to play the lovely solo in the slow movement.

High praise indeed!

Um.... Satchmo? (Louis Armstrong, for those who may not know "Satchmo")

Doesn't Jon Faddis have a pretty healthy set of lips too?

Cat Anderson's lips weren't exactly thin either.

Well, it sounds like you've gotten a pretty huge cross section of players to use as examples from jazz, to screamers, to orchestral horn players, to soloists. So, it ain't the meat. It's what's in the brain that rules.

Dr. Clarence,

How's the weather in Saint Diego? Obnoxiously beautiful, I presume...
