    Great TV from the 50s.

Doc Severinsen and an "All Star" trumpet quartet from the 50's Tonight Show - YouTube
Here is a clip from the late 50s or early 60s.
Doc looks like a kid. How many talk show hosts today could actually play with these 3 great players? Steve Allen did more for early TV that just about anybody.

Nice, smooth sound from the 3. Allen has a lot of talent too -trumpet is not a horn you just pick up and decide to play if you aren't in shape. He did well. Didn't Allen star in a movie about one of the big band leaders-Goodman I think -and they wouldn't let him play the clarinet parts? Insulting to him.

Wow, that's a cool clip, fun to find these gems getting posted. I liked the follow up after with Steve and Doc years later too.

That's what the world is missing today. Variety shows that featured musicians, singers, various styles of music and comedy.

    No kidding.

Kinda sad that the best we can do these days are the lame reality/competition shows. I'm still waiting for some real talent to show up on one of those.

I liked it but in a way I hate to listen to other trumpeters, its embarrassingly humbling! Great clip. Best wishes.
