Please provide some more information. What type of music does your group play? How many trumpets are in your section? Is there anything you specifically feel you need to improve upon (intonation, range, volume etc).

It sounds as if you want to play higher, louder, fast. Almost all of us want to, and most of the folks here at TM will tell you the key is to practice everything. Nobody's figured out quite yet how to master one or two elements without mastering the entire instrument.
Switching to another discipline, namely bodybuilding, shows us some training routines -- overuse the muscles one day, rest the next. This will get you some good loud high chops after six weeks or so. The problem is, the only "sport" that bodybuilders can excel in seems to be professional wrestling,because most real sports require endurance, speed, quickness and flexibility. So does the trumpet. This is why most of us counsel practicing in balance. 1 to 1.5 hours a day practicing everything, tiring the muscles without overusing them will do wonders. Please don't fall for the old "I don't have that much time a day!" trick. We've all been through it, and time can and will be found if you really want to improve.

that brings up a question....if one was to try the body building method of overuse one day and rest the next, does that mean no playing at all on the rest days? or more importantly, can some of the other elements of trumpet player be practiced on those days?

If high chops is your goal, find a teacher to help you get there. ANY extreme type of playing can do more harm than good if you haven't learned it the right way!
We all want to believe that we have the intellect and discipline to figure this out by ourselves. If that worked, we would be swamped with MONSTER players. We are not, so maybe we need to get back to the concept of "earning" our goals through consequential hard work and dedication. Playing lead is a job without shortcuts and a serious commitment to the horn is THE prerequisite.

If you wanna practice high make sure you keep a decent tone. Start doing long tones on a middle c then extend in half steps up and down making sure to play each note with a beautiful tone.
