Manny Laureano has a spectacular aura about
Here's what I'm talking about...

You've all read many times that I bemoan the lack of trumpet themes on TV. I grew up hearing so much more music around me that had trumpet in it that it was almost impossible to avoid it. For the younger generation, I've found a dandy little site that hs many of the themes that I heard as a boy. These were themes of varied styles that had the trumpet as an integral voice.

I hope that for those of you that have never heard any of this, it'll provide you with an insight as to what it was like for us of another generation. For those of you around my age... have fun.

That is so cool!

Too bad no Star Trek - probably the greatest orchestrated prime time show ever.

You know when I first got into Bix I realized his music, or some very much like it was used in the old cartoons I listened to and watched as a kid. It is interesting to lend an ear from a different angle. Those guys were so cutting edge for their time, some of the bass (string) work is amazing, also the guitar and violin stuff must have seemed way out there for the middle to late 20s. There is a great quote from a frustrated "other " trumpeter in one of the bands Bix was working that demonstrates what was going on and some were not aware, he said he couldn't play with him because he kept playing the "wrong notes" I'm sure Luis went through alot of these things as he was pushing the envelope in the south. It must have been grand.

I first heard Bix on the soundtrack of a programme called "The Beiderbecke Affair" - can't remember anything about the programme (it had nothing to do with Bix - but the main character was a huge Bix fan), but the music became a true favourite.
