Hindemith - Sonate for Brass Quintet

The Graduate Brass Quintet here at Penn State University is playing the Hindemith Sonate for Brass Quintet. It's a wonderful piece, and I encourage you to check it out if you have not heard it.

Does anybody know of a recording? I've checked the usual places, Amazon and Arkivmusic, but didn't come up with anything. Any ideas?

Louie

Louie,

What in the world is the Hindemith Sonate for brass 5tet? (certainly not an original piece)

Yep, EB is right...I didn't notice that before.

It is a great piece, though.

Hags888 will become famous soon enough
If it is a transcription, then I would try to figure out who transcribed it, and see if that person knows of any recordings. The transcriber might even have a demo version recording of it. It's much harder to find recordings for transcriptions in the brass quintet repertoire than it is for original compositions. Most of the "big name" groups like ABQ, Meridian, Center City, etc don't record as many transcriptions.

If the transcriber isn't listed, contact the publishing company to find out who did the transcription.

Which one?

Zwei Stücke für Orgel (1918)
Erste Sonate für Orgel (1937)
Zweite Sonate für Orgel (1937)
Sonate für Orgel nach alten Volksliedern (1940)

Curious,
EC
