Taste varys with the bedding and fruit additives. Mine was bedded in oatmeal and I added orange peelings. Still, my Granddad's winter peach brandy would knock your socks off if you put away a second sniffter of it. During prohibition Granddad earned enough to buy the farm he had been leasing to raise the corn. The T-boys never did find his stills as were cut up and sold for scrap during WWII. Well, my drinking days are history now ... my meds don't allow such now.
So how long is too long? I imagine this depends on the player. I find I can work on maintaining tone and doing so reproducibly, in a realistic time span. If you are working on Killer Joe time... that would be 8 beats for the longest hold in that tune. I myself during warm ups, hold long tones out for 8 beats slur to another note for 8 beats for a total of 6 intervals. I have found that this gives my very fine control for the most demanding hold I would use with practical playing.
I do use circular breathing which is a challenge, but can hold a steady tone for several cycles over a moderate tempo 12 bar blues progression.
As a medical specialist, I would NEVER recommend holding a note out to the point where you begin shaking. There are people out there that have a very sensitive B-J reflex and in so doing, my trigger a syncopal episode. This could lead to head injury, fracture or induced cardiac arrhythmia.
Very poor (untrained) painter if his/her paint ever peels. Musical instruments are the wrong tools / remedy to remove paint. Very old thick layered oil based paint cracks and curls.

Well, in the circumstance, if one were a lyricist and was enthralled with a painting, it may be written as: "The painting 'peals to my heart." Such contractions are sometimes overdone to synchronize with the music. Nuts don't crack either ... an external force cracks them.

PS: I know its cheap but I couldn't resist. I'm learning... it's a slow process, but I'm learning... What else can I do when BigDub is OBVIOUSLY off on vacation... or he's just OFF. Not sure which.
