Hot Wax on Lips?

Hi. I have a neighbor that has been playing a trumpet for about 1 year. He can play up to the high C above the staff! He is better than me . He told me his secret was that he took some hot candle wax and put it on his lips... would this help at all or is he trying to do something funny?

Y'know...

For a pair 'o fins I could have you have you taken care of by a guy that does whacks. I could have you buried or canned. Hmmm.. canned 'll do.
Wicked people like you need to be flamed, you drip.

(I think I covered about all of them. Did I leave you any?)
