Do you mean testing a new horn, or playing for a test?
If you can do it, warm up on your trumpet before you get to the place you're testing a new horn, or playing for a test. You could use a mute if you want to keep your sound down. Failing that being an option, I would buzz into the mouthpiece, and using a handkerchief if that is still too loud for the situation.
Do the same thing you normally do.
