A huge jump forward
Last night I played a concert on my C trumpet.
All of the music was written for B flat so I transposed the whole thing.
I didn't even bring my B flat trumpet (just in case)
The concert went really well.
About a year ago I couldn't transpose.
I haven't decided what to do next, Maybe I will play my D trumpet.
Good, going. You're on your way to broadening your concept of sound to the smaller horns and what they offer. It's good to develop a sense of continuity from horn to horn and not let keys get in the way.
For what it's worth, I learned all my transpositions from the standpoint of the Bb and transferred that knowledge to the smaller horns. As a result, I'm one of the few people around here that has no trouble with E, A, and F transposition from the Bb side of life. Lots of folks can do the major third, minor third down, and fourth up but can't transpose the tritone, down a half step or the fifth up. Too bad, says I.
