If you could name one trumpet solo of your favorite players..
Thought this might be a fun discussion:
If you could play one and only one solo from your favorite performers to show off to a friend in order to prove how good he/she was, which would it be?
Immediately coming to mind for me:
Maynard Ferguson: Foxy
This is from either his Echoes of an Era re-release or the Mosaic Collection if you're lucky enough to have it. Amazing technique, imagination, creativety and flexibility. He just blows the heck out of the horn on this one.
Dizzy Gillespie: The Champ
Have you guys heard this? There's a recording live from France. It's absolutely astonishing. This has got to be one of the greatest jazz trumpet solos of all time.

Arturo Sandoval: A Night in Tunisia from Dizzy Gilespie and the UNO Live at The Royal Festival Hall.
Claudio Roditi: On Samba for Carmen from the same recording!
That recording is a magic one, recomended for all trumpet players..

Indian Lady from the Autumn recording. Find the artist out yourself and listen--it will help with Stravinsky later on.

Not the most technically advanced, or improvsitory material, or even considered "high" in the pro world for only reaching a double G, but everytime I hear Kenton's "Send in the Clowns" I'm taken to a different planet.

Either Clifford's solo on September Song from Sarah Vaughn's album,
or
Chet Baker's solo on My Funny Valentine on disc 1 of the live in Toko album from 1987.
