Instrumet : Player ratio...
Did a concert on Saturday.. mixed repertoire, exerpts form Bach Christmas Oratorio, Handel Samson, various Wilcox arrangements of Carols etc...
3 trumpet players.... 8 trumpets required for the 1st half of the concert...
3 Piccs, 1 Yamaha, 1 Selmer Paris, 1 Benge
2 D Trumpets, 1 Besson, 1 Yamaha
3 Bb Trumpets... 3 Bachs
What is your highest ratio of trumpets : Players !! :)

The most I can think of for me is my Brass choir
-I play on:
Yamaha Picc and Eb, Conn Flugel, Bach Bb and C
-2nd player plays on a French Besson Bb and Yamaha C
-3rd player plays a Bach Bb and C
-4th player plays on a....uh...I can't remember right now
-But there is another player that plays with us now and then and she plays
on a Getzen Bb
-whoops, one more person, they play a Yamaha Bb
Practice is like filling a leaky bucket
Bb: Paul Mauriat, Yamaha
Flugel: Hub Van Laar ACK
Mouthpieces: monette, yamaha
On any given day in my quintet we each use a Bb, C, Picc, Flugel, Eb and D (depending on the tune) and Cornet. What is that...11 horns...for 2 people? Crazy.
My horns include:
Bb Yamaha 6345HG
C Yamalone 6445
Picc Schilke P5-4
Eb/D Schilke E3L
Cornet Getzen Eterna II
His horns include:
Bb Bach 37
C Schilke S22C
Picc Schilke P5-4
Eb/D Yamaha short model
We share the cornet, ain't I a nice guy?
Always hoping for Par...
Surrey Brass definitely own a huge ratio of trumpets to players (helped by one member of the section who has about 40 Bb trumpets, plus the others!).
The most I have yet used on a concert is 7, in the first half alone!
Was very tempted to bring the rotary out for one piece, but we only have two rotary trumpets between us and we thought that was getting a little silly
Huw used at least two Bb trumpets in that concert!
There is a picture of the section before we went on stage - no players, just the instruments and mutes. I think it is about 23 instruments between 6 of us, but three of those players only used 1 or 2 toys.
I have done a solo recital where I used all of the above, plus the rotary - 8 trumpets for 1 person do I win??
Yup you win LOL. I like to keep my concerts simple. I play 1 horn that I love to play, and thats that. How do you bring 8 horns to one concert? Bring 8 friends to carry them?
A lot of gig bags.
If you're going to make a mistake, go big.
This is a fun little discussion.
When I played in Seattle, Nutcracker was part of the season at Christmastime, of course. We played about 20 or so performances.
For that piece I brought into the pit:
1)The Bb for the bulk of it,
2)the piccolo for the "Attack of the toy trumpet" section (where the little brother leads the other boys in harrassing Clara and the other girls), and
3)the Eb for the Chocolate solo.
It was a nice time in my life. I never tired of the piece, I enjoyed it so much. I guess because everything was so new. I'd never even seen the Nutcracker so, it was fun.
I did the Nutcracker many years ago when I was with the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland http://www.nyoi.ie/ (Early 1990's I think)... all on Bb!

I do remember having a solo to play, don't remember anything about chocolate!!
I remember that someone did bring an old brass toy trumpet along (with 8 button type valves... on for each note in the scale) but it was a bit sharp and in the wrong octave for the MD's taste.
