The 2004 International Trumpet Guild Conference (June 15-19, Denver, Co) comes full circle from its roots to the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music, proud host of the first National Trumpet Symposiums, the direct forerunner of our present ITG conferences, which began at Lamont in 1968. Alan Hood, 2004 ITG Conference Host, and the Lamont School of Music are indeed honored to be a part of the 29th annual conference and are working hard to make this a gathering you won’t soon forget! All of the events will take place in the newly opened, acoustically superior arts complex, the Robert and Judi Newman Center for the Performing Arts. Be sure to make some plans to explore the breathtaking scenic beauty of the Colorado Rockies together with your trip to the Denver conference!

But take an oxygen tank. If you happen to drive up to Estes Park and take the scenic route "to the top lookout" you'll step out of your car at over 10,000 ft. ASL. They don't put signs up at the bottom of the hill warning those with breathing or heart problems for nothing!

It IS a fantastic place, however. The water will be a little cool this time of year but the river rafting isn't too shabby neither.

I'll second that...not quite as beautiful as Berchtesgaden in Germany but the white water rafting is great. Believe it or not I spent a week there in August 2001 and drove over the Trail Ridge road to take part in the white water rafting 2 months before my quadruple heart op!! Loved every minute of it.

I was raised near there (moved to Indiana about 2 years ago). Where Denver University is is about 2 miles from where I got my Master's Degree at Denver Seminary.

The University of Denver is a nice campus, but the area is very urban. Nice backdrop, you can see the Rockies very clearly.

But plan to leave the DU area to see some of Colorado's real beauty. From Denver you can drive up I70 and then over Trail Ridge Road through Rocky Mtn. National Park and end up in Estes Park. It is a beautiful drive, up over 10,000 ft with amazing views. Estes Park is a nice little town with lots of shops and restaurants. It is at 8000 ft! Then down the mountain through Loveland (my home town) or Longmont and back to Denver. It will take nearly a day to do this drive if you stop and take in the sights.

The Colorado Rockies baseball team will be in town all those days. A game at Coors Field is worth the time too (playing the Red Sox and then the Orioles in Interleague play).

IF you are taking the family, a drive up I70 then US40 to Winter Park is great. A nice drive, but even more fun when you get to Winter Park. It is a ski resort that converts to a summer fun place. There is a long concrete "bobsled" ride that goes down the mountain. You can rent mtn. bikes or mtn. scooters and the chair lift will take you to the top (doing the hard part) and you can ride (read coast) down many, many different trails. They have a rock climbing wall, putt-putt golf, a human maze and lots of fun stuff.

Denver can be a fun place. 6 Flags Eliches is a great amusement park, Water World in Westminster (a northern suburb) is a hugh water park. Like I said, I grew up there and my Dad still lives there and is a retired golf pro. If golf is your thing, there is nothing liking playing a mtn. golf course.

Oh .... and there is this trumpet thing going on there too.

Who wants to catch a Sox game with me while I'm out there?

I'll be manny-ing (pun intended) the Eclipse booth.

Their horns hit a grand slam every time.

okay, I'll stop :)

Seriously it would be great to catch a game with anyone who's interested. I know all that trumpet "stuff" is going on as well. ;)

Send me a PM!

Best,

Trent

You guys are going to be too dead at that altitude to play baseball or much of anything else! Which, since I live at 6300 feet is going to be that much more fun for me, if I manage to make it out there.

At Coors Field, they have a ring of purple seats (the rest are green) in the third deck. Those seats are exactly a mile high above sea level. Coors Field is amazing. Built in a circle you can walk around the whole park, great food for a ballpark. They wanted it to be family friendly so you can bring in your own food and drink (as long as it is not in a glass container or contains alcohol).

Easy work watching the PROS play

If I was going I would join you Trent, but the ITG comes at the wrong time for me this year.

BTW, Rockies tickets can be purchased online: Click Here.

If ya'll wanna see some beautiful scenery and scare yourself stupid, go through Independence Pass. If you take it, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about...

Through a strange twist of fate, I may actually get to show up. My family decided we are going to go fly fishing at Taylor Reservoir, which is about 2.5 hours south and west of Denver if I remember right. Who knows, I might just talk them into it!

I was just wondering how many of you are going to the ITG?

Not many have said they are going!

Is Denver a trumpet player starved area ?

I have been informed that a lot of west coast players will turn up for it, but i was wondering about the rest of you.

I guess what with work, distance and prior engagements it can be difficult to attend

Regards

Leigh
