Manny Laureano has a spectacular aura about
Just Pietzschy

Yo,

I wanted to share with you a book that I've been working out of recently. It's called "Twenty Two Virtuosity Studies" by H. Pietzsch. This is the same Pietzsch that compiled "Die Trompete" that has lots of wonderful information and examples of excerpts, solos and such.

These etudes are rather stunning in how musical they are and challenging to the technique. To refer to them as the German Charlier book would not be out of line. For all I know it may have been originally published before the Charlier etudes. They allow you to use your imagination and make you play some different patterns from what you may be used to. I've been working out of this book for the last week or so and truly enjoying it.

The edition I have is put out by Southern Music Company and, judging from the price ($2.00) may not still be available, I don't know. At any rate, it's worth looking for if you want to add some good, solid etudes to your library. I think these should become standard advanced etudes for the college player.

ML

i second the above, they are a challenge. I think they are still in print but my copy is also 10+ years old too.
