Leave a Message for Doc Severinsen HERE! Feel free to leave a message here for Doc Severinsen. There have been many nice posts in the Orchestra/Solo forum wishing him the best for his upcoming retirement. We will be taking those messages and and combining them with posts here. TM member Bernadette Hilario "BinSB" will make sure he gets all of the messages! Thank you Bernadette! Doc Severinsen, the flamboyantly dressed jazz trumpeter, conductor and, most famously, leader of "The Tonight Show" band during the Johnny Carson years, will step down as principal conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra's Weekender Pops Series, a position he has held for 13 years. He will play his last concert as principal conductor in April 2007. Severinsen, 79, said in a prepared statement that he plans to retire in order to spend more time with his "wonderful wife and best friend, Emily." They raise horses at a ranch in the Santa Ynez Valley of central California. He also is relinquishing a similar pops position next year with the Milwaukee Symphony. http://www.startribune.com/457/story/546392.html

| New Friend | Hey Doc! If I had to say there was one reason why I started playing trumpet it would be because I heard you play on the Tonight show back in the late 80's and early 90's. I'd stay up late, usually with my dad, who is also a trumpet nut, and watch the show in hopes you'd have a feature with the band. Over the years, as Thanks for all these years of great playing. You've been an inspiration to countless trumpet players over the years, definitely including myself. Keep blowin', and right now I'm gonna take your advice. I'm gonna go practice!!! Charlie |

"Doc" Thank you for my lifetime of GREAT inspiration! From Chuck Peterson's student...Chuck Willard ps I have a great picture of you at the Michigan State Fair in Detroit, around 1966-7. Nice gray suit and SHORT hair. And you blew the paint of the place! So many cherished memories!

Hi Doc, Thanks for all the years of great music, great albums, (Trumpet Spectacular still my favorite) and great entertainment. Hope you enjoy your future endeavors as much as we enjoyed you. Best to You and Emily, and of course the horses! What kind of horses do you have? Sincerely, Kim Doran

Doc, Man what could I possibly say? You've been an inspiration to me my whole life and I'm honored to have a place to tell you that. I hope you'll get to do what ever it may be that your heart desires. Enjoy; you've most certainly earned it! John

Doc - although I am just an average amatuer who plays mainly for fun I will never forget when you came to my high school in 1967 and talked to us brass players in our stage band for several hours. You actually seemed to enjoy visiting with us and gave some good advice that I have used in daily living since then. Not only are you a great trumpet player but you are also a great person. Thank You - - David Mickley
