Long brush for leadpipe?
While recoating my trumpet tuning crook with grease I took a look through the leadpipe. What a mess! Grease, pieces of Kleenex(Don't ask!), even a plastic "tone enhancer" some guy from Colorado must have sold me at the NYC Brass conference. The schmutz is so dense and stuck to the walls that I'm sure soap and water alone won't remove it all.
Does anybody know where to find a "bottle brush" long enough and small enough in diameter to reach the full length of the leadpipe?
Maybe if the leadpipe is that filthy the rest of the horn needs a soap-and-water brushing out as well.
(Please don't suggest sending it out. I ain't gonna do that.)
Thanks for replies.
Look in the kitchen utensil section of the grocery or Walmart/Target/Walgreen's type place for a "teapot" brush. Jim Thompson told me about this years ago and it is handy to keep in the gig bag for a quick cleaning job.
Go to any music store and ask for a "trumpet cleaning snake". A full trumpet cleaning kit will include one also.
Thanks Alex. How long are these brushes?
Do they reach all the way through or at least half way through?
Get a REKA kit.
The best cleaning tools I have used!

Yes Tom, they reach a little over half way and are good at removing "crud".

I also use the REKA kit for normal cleaning, but I carry one of these brushes for in between cleanings when I am on the road.
I like the Reka kit a lot, also the Bob Reeves leadpipes swab works well, push come to shove, you can buy a shotgun barrel brush, it's long and will get the job done, best of luck!
Music isn't a career, it's a way of life.
Don't use one made of metal or you will be sorry some day.
