    Maggio system

I noticed interest in the Maggio system here. In 1975 I took lessons from Carlton Macbeth who published the book "The original Louis Maggio System for Brass" . It changed my playing forever. I increased my range a lot, increased flexibility, basically improved all aspects of my playing. I have a copy of the book.

    Re: Maggio system

Are you offering to provide insight?
I'm not sure if I'd personally use it, because embouchure changing can be fatal, but it doesn't hurt to get a little advice from a wide range of people I presume.

Diferent persons should use different methods.
That's teacher's goal: individual solutions for individual players,
I'm happy it works for you.

    Re: Maggio system

Let me vent a bit of heresy here.

I believe that the system that you use does not matter one bit. I believe that the human body is so resilient that Reinhardt, Maggio, heck even the Maybelline method will work if just get off of our duffs and start REALLY practicing sensibly. I do not believe that there is only one option for each human being. I think that there is an INFINITE amount of possibilities that only can work when we stop messing around with a bit of this or that and really GET SERIOUS. That does not mean that there aren't systems that will not work, I just think that that is not the problem

I have been playing for over 40 years and one teacher early on told me if I didn't switch embouchures, after 4 or 5 years my playing would deteriorate. Boy am I glad that I ignored him!

Next secret: anybody that practices sensibly changes their embouchure regularly too without even knowing it. Why? Because as your muscles develop, you have new possibilities and that changes things subconciously!

Moral of the story: get serious, work hard, pay attention to what counts (MUSIC not nerd technique) and let the horn do the talking!

    Re: Maggio system

Interesting...I just read somewhere that Wayne uses Maggio pedals
and other exercises. Sure, I'm interested in anything that can help
    me sound like him!
I'm sure Rowuk is correct in saying that smart practice will always win
no matter what method is used.
    Have fun,
