I am pleased to announce on behalf of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, that Mark Inouye, Principal Trumpet in the San Francisco Symphony as well as faculty member at SFCM, will be presenting a masterclass at the University of Houston in the Dudley Recital Hall on January 31st, 2013, at 6:30PM

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music will also be holding a regional audition on February 1st at the Houston Grand Opera focusing on hearing brass students from the area. Mark Inouye will be in attendance at this audition so it is a unique chance to play for a faculty member at a regional audition site! While this masterclass will be free and open to the public, students who will be auditioning for SFCM the next day will be given priority in getting a chance to play for Mark.

The Trumpet department at SFCM consists of four faculty members, Dave Burkhart, Mario Guarneri, Adam Luftman, and Mark Inouye, and generally not more than eight students. Each member of our trumpet faculty teaches trumpet class so it gives each student the chance to work with every faculty member! Bios for our entire brass faculty may be found here. If you have specific questions about the Trumpet department, I encourage you to contact one of our faculty members by email. They may also be able to provide you with a consultative lesson should you decide to visit.

The trumpet studio also keeps a facebook page updated with current events as well as photos/videos of studio events! You can find the page here!

The Conservatory offers a wide-range of performance opportunities for trumpet students. Students participate in the Conservatory Orchestra, New Music Ensemble, Baroque Ensemble, Brass Repertoire class, Brass Chamber Music Class, and Trumpet Class each week. Additionally, our small class size ensures that every student receives personal attention from faculty members.

Online applications are available at Unified Application for Music and Performing Arts Schools starting September 1st. Fall applications are due December 1st. For complete information about our application procedure please visit here. Audition requirements can be found here.

Auditions for the fall semester will be held in January/February at the Conservatory. Additionally, regional auditions will be held in Boston, New York, Chicago, and Interlochen.

One of our greatest assets at the Conservatory is our new building. Take a virtual tour of our new building here! Our new location in San Francisco's Civic Center is just blocks away from the San Francisco Symphony, Opera and Ballet. This leaves us with a unique relationship with all three organizations. Students are offered free tickets to the symphony each month at a ticket giveaway as well as from time to time throughout the year. Opera tickets are also often given to the conservatory to be given to students. The Opera also opens itís doors to conservatory students for many dress rehearsals throughout the year. The brass faculty is also able to get students into dress rehearsals for the SF Symphony.

An exciting part of having the majority of the San Francisco Symphony brass section teaching at SFCM is that we have a side-by-side during out last brass ensemble rehearsal. At this rehearsal we are able to sit inbetween the symphony members and play full orchestral parts back and forth between the pros and the students!

If you have any further questions or would like to set up a visit with our office, please do not hesitate to contact me by e-mail or at 800-899-SFCM. I studied as a MM trumpet student at SFCM before moving into the admissions office so I am more than happy to answer any specific questions you have about the brass program at SFCM!
