![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | May 23,1912 Manny, Could you give Bill Vacchiano a call today and wish him a Happy Birthday? We all owe Mr. Vacchiano a debt. He was the standard by which trumpet playing was judged for many years. Wilmer- A friend of Bill

![]() | Hey, Wilmer, Way ahead of you, babe... y'know, I still have that phone number from memory? I think this afternoon I'll have a Vacchiano recording marathon! I'll probably start with the Copland recordings and finish with the most beautiful chorale ever recorded from Mahler 3rd, last movement. 93 years young and he remembers everything! ML |

![]() | So, I called the old man twice. This morning I left a "Happy Birthday" song on his answering machine and then called again later this afternoon and spoke with him. I told him about your message and he was very happy about that. I asked him how he was and he said "Well, I'm 93, y'know (laughs)... I don't get around as much as I used to. I just stay close to home and take it easy". He was happy I called and, as usual, ended his side of the call with, "G-d bless". I put "Billy the Kid" on during dinner... that slow solo... still gorgeous after all this time. Stay cool, Wilmer. ML |
