"Maynard Ferguson" Studio Recording

Does anyone know what Stan Kenton Record had the studio recording of "Maynard Ferguson"? My teacher had it on 78 I think...I had a cassette copy from that.

The Thread on "Playing fast" reminded me of that record as I was 13 trying to transcribe that song (of course I couldn't PLAY it :)

There is a '51 live at Carnegie Hall recording of it on iTunes but the clip I heard didn't sound like the recording I remember. I'm sure it was a studio recording.

Re: "Maynard Ferguson" Studio Recording

I found it. The Original was Sten Kenton Orchestra "Stan Kenton Presents" in 1950. It was a 10" LP and not a 78.

It was later released as part of a 2 CD set called "The Innovations Orchestra"

Be sure to listen to the "MF" Clip if you haven't heard it before.
I'm not really a Maynard fan, but to hear him play in 1950 is pretty shocking.

You beat me to it. Yes, a 10" LP. It was on Capital records. I have a copy.

All the best.
